What is the Real Cost?
- We have all been told that the proposed recreation center will be funded, construction and operation, by the 33% tax increase.
- We have been told the cost will ONLY be 12 million dollars to build the proposed recreation center.
THE REAL COST
- Although the "actual" cost to build the center is 12 to 15 million dollars we are borrowing the money to build the center. The city will issue bonds that will be insured, marketed and pay high interest. A lot of people and companies will make money on your hard earned tax dollars. By the time we pay off the debt, the residents of Fruita will have paid nearly 40 million dollars. That's right more than 300% of the "actual cost".
- The proposed recreation center's operation will be primarily funded by user fees, or as you might know them as membership fees. It is going to cost every man woman and child $4000 is taxes to build this center, and nearly $700.00 annually to use it.
- THE COST WILL GO UP: The city's own feasibly study states "over the long haul the city will need to be ready and willing to adjust fees and charges to meet increasing costs"
- This is a long term and monumental tax and fee commitment that the city is making with your hard earned money. "With an inevitable increase in operations costs the City must understand the financial
commitment they are making in choosing to build and operate an aquatics/recreation
facility."- The City of Fruita Feasibility Study
Ask yourself are you are willing to pay nearly $700 annually for your family to use this government run gym and pool. If you are not then vote NO on A.
If you are not going to pay to use it then why should you pay to build it? Vote NO on A!
